Aries X Umbro@headingTag>
We’ve teamed up with London based luxury streetwear brand Aries for a second instalment, and this time it’s all about rugby.
Aries was originally founded in 2012 by designer Sofia Prantera and graphic artist Fergus Purcell. Their collections sit in between streetwear and high-end fashion with influences drawn from the ‘80s and ‘90s countercultures such as punk and rave.
For Spring/ Summer ’23, the collaboration is inspired by the mud-stained nostalgia of the rugby field with classic rugby silhouettes, reimagined using Aries’ renowned dying techniques. There’s also a nod to the mythical with the inclusion of mystic symbols and iconography inspired by Paganism.
The standout piece in the collection is the classic rugby shirt. This features traditional block stripes with a patchy over-dye and sun-bleached fade treatment for a fresh take on a classic look. The look is completed with a double diamond rugby crest and collab logo across the chest.
Further pieces in the collection include the cotton drill track pant and cotton drill shorts, neon and deep navy rugby socks and a rugby ball.
The collection launches via a campaign shot by legendary Film Director and Photographer, Elaine Constantine. Renowned for her colourful portrayals of British youth culture, Elaine captures the rawness of rugby by featuring models from Aries street casting and local East London teams.
